New CPU: The Controller S320 is now equipped with
an improved signal processor TMS320C32 that uses twice the clock
frequency. Calculations can be done with about twice the speed compared
to the old version!
Watchdog: A watchdog device can restart the
Controller S320 if a program doesn't work correctly because of
software or hardware failures.
More main memory: The new CPU board features 2MB
static RAM (old version: 256/512KB). This makes it possible to run
larger programs and work with more data.
More battery backed RAM: The size of the battery
backed RAM has been increased from 50 bytes to about 8 kilo bytes.
Battery backed RAM may be used to store data that survives a cold
reboot of the controller.
More flash ROM: 4MB flash ROM (old hardware:
512KB or 1MB resp.) can be used to store programs and data permanently.
File system: Part of the flash ROM is organized
as a file system similar to a hard disk. Data can be stored and
retrieved by name from either SPELL programs or from the terminal
program.
Network: The Controller is now equipped with an
ethernet interface that can be used to talk to other hosts in a LAN.
An integrated TCP/IP stack allows even connecting the controller to the
internet.
Web server: The operating system of the
Controller S320 contains a small embedded web server that can be used
to access documents and data from the outside. Web documents can be
static or generated dynamically by SPELL programs.
